@vinfarrell

During the better part of the eight years between 2012 and 2020, I traveled around the world constantly for work.

To combat the jetlag, sleepless nights, and solitude of business travel I decided to turn these trips into a creative exploration and began capturing the beauty of the cities I was visiting.

What started as a study of unique sunrises, sunsets and museums evolved into a love of local architecture, portraits, and aerial adventures.

Carrying traditional camera equipment wasn’t practical so I relied on the convenience of my iPhone which allowed me to quickly capture, filter and publish on Instagram. This gave me the opportunity to connect with locals in different cities, and build a following on social media.

During my travels I was inspired by the works of Henry Dalton (1829-1911), a British micrographer who during his time created ornate and intricate ‘micromosaics’ using butterfly wings viewable only through the lens of a microscope.

Since seeing his work, I have been motivated by the confinement of the small format. I love how it requires the viewer to focus closely on the subject matter and become pulled closer and closer into the experience as they view the piece.

Thank you for coming along with me on this journey.
